Game of Thrones Watching Party

Come watch the Game of Thrones finale June 14th at the library.  We’ll have a grill set up, but bring your own meat as it’s BYOBBQ (or veggie option) as well as BYOB.

The grilling begins at 6:00 and the show starts at 8:00.

Rumor has it there will be a prize for the coolest costume.

Join us this Sunday, May 24th at 7pm for A Night of Poetry.   This month we have three featured poets.

Sebastian Hasani Paramo will be a teaching fellow in the doctoral program at the University of North Texas in the fall.  His poems have appeared, or are forthcoming, in Toe Good Poetry, Huizache, and North American Review.  Currently, he wears many hats as editor of The Boiler, curator of the Pegasus Reading Series, and a teacher at Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas.

Robert Torres has been performing poetry since 2009.  He started the Words Reading Series in San Antonio in 2010.  In 2011, he moved to Denton, where he ran the Punk Poet Society until 2014.  He now runs Pegasus Reading Series with Sebastian Hasani Paramo.  He previously hosted the Free Word webcast with Erica GDLR ( Edyka Chilome.)  He studied Creative Writing and Theater Performance at the University of North Texas, graduating in 2013.  He self-published his book, The Year of the Slut, in 2013.

Michael Guinn is a spoken word poet and a founder of the Fort Worth Poetry Slam Team.  He has opened for Malcolm Jamal Warner and Russell Simmons, and has performed at the Akoben Word Festival, the Austin International Poetry Festival, the Toronto International Slam Championships, and the Arkansas Grand Slam, to name a few.

Admission is always free, but donations are appreciated in order to keep this event going.

Join us Sunday, May 17th at Fairmount Park for Wiffle Ball.  Watch teams made up of local coffee and beer lovers in the ultimate wiffle ball challenge.  Who will win?   Coffee or beer?

We are excited and honored that the generous folks at Brewed decided to have a fundraising event for us.   We would like to thank Brewed, as well as other local vendors such as Melt Ice Creams, Twisted Dogs, LLC, Funky Town Donuts, and Cuvee Coffee who have donated their time as well to help raise much needed funds for the library.
